Caved out.
The week started with the fan purchase marked with an argument between two employees around how to best pack it. The exchange escalated quickly as we watched standing by to react, as one of the employees was holding a paper-cutting scalpel. It quieted down just as quickly as the manager got involved. Peace to both otherwise lovely ladies trying to offer good service.
The event of the week was the Nick Cave concert in the magical antic theatre in Plovdiv. A legend's live performance is hard to describe in words. Nick on piano and Colin Greenwood (!) on bass engaged the audience in an intimate setting and got us singing along to epic cantos like "Into My Arms" and "Push The Sky Away". Simplicity and depth, poetic storytelling during and in between the songs, demonstration of the power of quiet and understatement, all wrapped around a full spectrum of emotions. Nick is a master of delivery, subtle humor and ruthlessly but lovingly conducting the audience. More to learn than we could soak up.
Our online discussions revolved around the final details of this week's video shoot and new songs. One of which codenamed "Young Blood" driven forward by Kalo is a groovy-punky tune morphing into a Radiohead-ish harmony towards the end. Coming from Kalo, the demo may sound like almost finished, but we'd hate to rob ourselves of the chance to play around and argue about it in the rehearsal room. Another topic was Tony's part in the "Final Game" piece sent in from Burgas. We also shared the available demos of our second album material with our intended producer, but more about that later once we've talked it through.
The two-hour rehearsal was dedicated to assembling the fan and running through the structure and different parts in "Young Blood" before Kalo and Schwartz had to rush for a family dinner. Luckily we remembered to record at least one take, so now it's time to listen and practice at home getting ready for the next run at it.
The live dates for the remaining months of 2025 are more or less set and we're eager to get back in front of a live audience and find out ourselves what we'll have to share.
